About Us
Kentucky Ghost Hunters 2000 was formed in Feburary 2000 after several
months of paranormal study into the spirit world. There is one story that had
a huge impact upon its creation. I can remember back in my early childhood days
when I had moved from place to place in the Cincinnati, Ohio area where several
places showed signs of paranormal activity. I never thought much about it
until somewhere around 1977 when we moved back to Kentucky. A young man was
brutally murdered just a few hundred yards away from our home. His name was
Kenneth Gilreath , a local drunkard who was always fighting with other drunks
in the area. One evening at the age of 10, I rode to church with my great aunt,
uncle and grandmother when we passed a dirt road (which was an old forest service
road) where we saw Kenneth Gilreath and five other adult males drinking that evening.
Later that night after church, we passed the place where we had saw Kenneth and the
other men but they had already left the place. The next morning we were standing outside
awaiting the school bus to run for school when we saw several Law Enforcement Officers
pass the house. It wasn't until later on that evening we found out what had happened.
Sometime after we saw Kenneth the previous evening he was stabbed, beaten,
and drug over two miles by a vehicle and then ran over more than five (5) times.
The men threw Kenneth into a ditch in front of my cousin's house were he was found
the next morning by their kids while waiting for the school bus. Family members had
went to the scene of the crime as soon as they heard about it. The scene was morbid,
with his body mangled and torn apart.
Some months later I was outside playing. It was getting close to dark when my
mother yelled and told me come into the house and get ready for school. Before I went
into the house, I saw a man walking up the road heading towards my house. As the man
got closer to where I was standing, I realized it was him, Kenneth, the man who was
killed a few months before. As he was walking by, he said to me, "You better listen
to your mother", and then he walked a few yards and disappeared. At this time I was
totally spooked at what I had just seen. I ran back to the house so hard I couldn't
even talk, due to my mouth feeling like dry cotton balls. I tried to tell my mother
what I had seen but she wouldn't listen to me. A few days later my aunt asked if I
wanted to have supper at her house that evening around 5:30. I told her I would be
there. After we all sat down to eat supper, she asked me out of the blue if I'd seen
a man that looked like Kenneth walking down the road. I was shocked when she asked me
this. I told her yes, and then I asked her why she wanted to know . She said that her
husband (my uncle) had seen him the night before and was too scared to even talk about
it. I then told her about the evening that I saw him and how he vanished into thin air.
Others saw him over the next few years while traveling on the road were he was killed.
To this day, I never drive alone when I return to my old home.
The case went cold over the years and no one was ever arrested or convicted,
even though many knew who committed the murder. Our law enforcement never investigated
his death. Kenneth was just another write off from society.
I hope some day he can rest in peace.
